Oslo is the largest city in Norway and is home to over one million people. As you can imagine, with that many residents and many more tourists who visit each year, there are many attractions and things to see and do to keep everyone busy. Oslo has a rich history and dates back to 1048. Much of the city was destroyed by fire in 1624 so many of the historical buildings date back to that period. Many of the attractions in Oslo are centered on the city's Viking history.

The Viking Ship Museum is home to the world's best preserved 9th century Viking ships as well as supplies like tools and utensils. The Natural History Museum is actually several museums in one along with a botanical garden. The dinosaur museum is a big hit with young visitors, but there is something here for everyone to enjoy. The Kon-Tiki Museum is filled with artifacts and boats from Thor Heyerdahl's famous expeditions.

For something a little different, the Vegeland Sculpture Park is a must see. This is a popular recreational area and is filled with sculptures made out of cast iron, bronze, and granite that were designed by the artist Gustav Vigeland. There are over 200 sculptures total and this is one of the most popular attractions in Oslo, it draws in over one million visitors each year. The Mini Bottle Gallery is another unusual Oslo attraction. This is a three story museum that houses over 53,000 miniature bottles that are filled with an interesting assortment of things like berries and worms.

If you want to get some exercise, you should try a cycling tour of Oslo. You can choose an easy cycle tour on mostly flat terrain or ramp up your effort by cycling the many hills and inclines in the city. There are special biking trails available to make your outing safer. You can even take guided cycling tours so you don't miss any of the high points of the city.

Oslo gets a lot of snow and winter activities abound in this city. You can learn to snow ski at Tryvann Vinterpark which is just a half an hour from downtown Oslo or try your ice skating skills at the Narvisen Skating Rink. There are many other fun winter sports available like tobogganing or you can go for a beautiful guided night walk during the winter nights and see all the beautiful lights twinkling in the snow.

The young and young at heart will get a thrill from the TusenFryd Amusement Park. Here is your chance to ride on the world's steepest and highest ride that drops into water. You will find many other rides and milder activities for the younger kids like games, shops, and great places to eat. During the summer months you can splash in the waterpark and play beach volleyball.

Many of these attractions are free or discounted when you purchase an Oslo Pass. When you arrive in Oslo, that is one of the first things you should purchase as it will really save you some money.
