Fun Things To Do in Amsterdam

There are so many different things to do in and around Amsterdam, that one could wander around this fine city a month and not see everything. There is the red light district, where adults can find all kinds of entertainment of just about any description, from window shopping for ladies of the evening, legal in Amsterdam, to one of the many smoking cafes where you can order and enjoy many 'menu' items that are illegal in the United States. You don't have to smoke either to enjoy this area, there are also many clubs and taverns where you will find a wide range of locally brewed alcoholic beverages, and be able to dance with some of the most gorgeous women the world has to offer.

If you think that Amsterdam is just about the adult side of entertainment, then you would be mistaken. In fact there are many different places that are not only good family fun, but cater to them as well. There are many museums, like their National Museum the Tijksmuseum. This place has a lot of different things to offer tourists of all ages. Not only does it feature the World's largest collection of paintings by Dutch Masters, but also one of the top collections of historical items and art in all of Europe.

What kid doesn't like a boat ride? Perhaps the best way to start your trip through Amsterdam is by taking the kids aboard one of the many different canal cruise tours. There are many to choose from, including open air boats, like ones from the St. Nicolas Boat Club, which is a great way to not only have a tour, but also to enjoy warm weather. The Canal Company is a glass enclosed ship that even offers a Pizza Cruise the whole family can enjoy.

What is a trip to Amsterdam as a family without visiting NEMO, the Netherlands largest and most interactive science center? With five floors of exciting things to explore and discover, there is something for everyone. There are theater performances, exhibitions, workshops, and many other informative and completely interactive offerings, that are always connected with technology and science.

Now one of the nicest things about taking a holiday, is that you have many different options. While you can stay in a conventional hotel or resort, there are many disadvantages. Instead of spending your money this way, why not save not only money but time by renting a holiday apartment instead? The apartments for rent in Amsterdam are going to be much cheaper in the long run since they charge by the week or month instead of by the day. It will also give you more peace of mind and much less stress because there is privacy, with many different bedroom options, some even with more that one bathroom.

The other nice part about renting an apartment is that they have a full kitchen facility, and all you have to do is buy food. Shopping in local markets and bakeries is the best way to take in the real culture of Amsterdam, from real people, and not tourist type hangouts. Be sure that you book your  holiday apartment rental early, these tend to fill up very quickly.
